Brilliant guitarist, entertainer, and songwriter Bill Blue is a Key West legend. Blue moved to Key West in the early 1980’s after touring for eighteen years with The Bill Blue Band. Music lovers in Key West over the past 30 years couldn’t be happier about that decision. He has dazzled crowds of folks on the island Paradise with his unique combination of finger picking, slide guitar work and his powerhouse vocals ever since. Blue, now in his seventies and unquestionably one of the finest slide guitarists alive, continues to play multiple gigs every week. He and his band are regular performers at The World Famous Green Parrot, among other local venues.
Blue’s career has crossed paths with many other incredible musicians. He has shared the stage with the likes of ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers, and Albert King, just to name a few.
In October 2013, Blue released his first studio album in nearly Thirty years. Mojolation quickly climbed the Blues charts and sat at the top for several weeks. Although it was his first effort in three decades, the same old-school, backyard, hard driving Blues style that has defined Blue is undeniable on the record. Blue is currently in studio working on a new album. The highly anticipated album to be titled ‘The King of Crazy Town’ will be released sometime in early Spring 2017. Aside from being a true international legend of The Blues, Bill Blue is also a proud member Key West’s One Human Family. He often headlines local charity events and stays involved in the community he obviously has dearly loved since he moved to Key West. In fact, rumor has it that Blue was instrumental in influencing Key West native and guitar legend Caffeine Carl Wagoner. Wagoner often refers to Blue as “Uncle Bill.” Blue also makes frequent appearances on radio shows, at book signings, and other community events to show his support. Without fail, Blue always draws a crowd of locals who all stand in awe of his live performances. Local musicians and music lovers alike pack any venue Blue and his band grace. Key West is lucky to have such an amazing musician and class act atop our local music family tree.
